Arribale

I recently visited this restaurant and had a great evening.
It is a very romantic setting with delicious wine and a great choice of food, the grill smelt wonderfull although we chose the tapas, it is must when visiting Lagos

NahNahBah

NahNahBah is a fantastic place to eat. The place is stylish, fun, relaxed and the music is great. The food is delicious. The menu is short but every dish is made to perfection (yes I have tried them all). The prices are very low and the quality is high. Lastly, the staff are a pleasure, they make you feel welcome and comfortable. Five Stars!

We love the new award system. Great to find restaurants with no annoying TV, thanks.

We have been to Lagos 3 times now and we love Casa Rosa. You can't believe the huge portions of delicious food. The Burritos rock!

Boston girls love Casa Rosa.

like the awards, maybe you can think of some more catagories. 5 would be good so the ultimate place could be 5 star.

Thanks John, good idea. We will have to think of some. Any ideas, anyone, tell us what you look for and we'll make a star for it.

We went to try Little Italy after reading you sites review. We had a great night good food. We do agree with you they need a good priced house wine. Portugal has so much good wine for so little money. There is no excuse for a restaurant not to offer a cheap house wine. Get this right Little Italy and you will have a top notch resaurant. My wife and I live in Praia da Luz and come into Lagos to eat with friends often. We all hate the fact that so many restaurants have TV. We all fight for the seats where you are not facing the screens. It is so distracting and spoils your meal. So thank you for making it easier to find the places without TV so we can use them more often.

Navagador and Du Cais

We have used both of the above, the latter being in the Marina area. As a family we have tried many good place in lagos, and found these two to be top of our list for quality and excellent service. 5 stars

I've been to Lagos before and had no luck finding a restaurant which was good for vegetarians. Can anyone recommend somewhere as I am going back this year? Just a couple of veggie dishes on the menu would be fine. Thanks.

Anonymous said...

When looking for Veggie dishes in Lagos try to avoid the traditional Portguese restaurants as most of their dishes are meat and fish. Go for the more international places like Casa Rosa where the veggie options are equal in number to their counterparts. NahNahBah has great veggie options too. There are a lot of Italian and Indian eateries in town now. These fine establishments always have many options for vegitarians.

Hope this helps.

John & Arlene we used your site almost exclusively to choose restaurants and it was a massive success. Restaurant Fernando was our favourite it is fantastic and more then lives up to your description on website. Adega De Marina is a really cheerful and enjoyable venue with great service and enormous portions.
O Joao was our only disappointment - the menu was ltd, room was very hot and the food was average. For breakfast Britacia as recommended was great.
O Franguinho a bit difficult to find but was very good in a basic and exceptionally cheap way - worth the extra walk.
Arribale we would highly recommend, Marko the owner is an excellent host and the food, given the limited kitchen, is fantastic. At Meu Limao we only had drinks which we enjoyed and went back to 4 times the only problem is the very slow but very pleasant service. Our strongest recommendation is not on your list but is called Escondidinho it is found near the GNR Police office and is a bit of a walk but very worth it, service is superb, food especially fish is exceptional (u choose the fish you want), very reasonable price wise.

This place used to be great. It now has new owners. We tried it out. The stylish interior has now been replaced with tacky oriental pictures. The menu is a cheap and nasty plastic folder with a very limited range of dishes. The food is basic and made from very poor quality meat and fish. And yet, the prices are high. For what you would pay here for a dish you could get a very high quality meal elsewhere. Very poor. This is not just our opinion, most of the other diners on the night of our visit were complaning and leaving.

lemongrass thai restaurant. read all the great reviews before we went. busy restaurant so booked table for 6 and watched the girl put it in the book. turned up looking forward to thai meal, place in chaos, booking had been entered "for the night after". Went elsewher confirmed that night after ok. Turned up looking forward to good night out and they had done same again and seemed to smile about it too. Sounds like food would be good but didnt have chance to try it - not recommended if you want a guaranteed meal!!

mediterranean restaurant lagos - fab restaurant. food excellent, especially for vegetarians. pleasant staff with wonderful service.

A Forja - Affectionately referred to as the Blue Door - if you like duck this place is a must for Sunday lunch. They bring the menu but everyone just asks for Pato small or Large. The small costs 4.50 euros. An earthenware pot with a base of flavoured rice with chorizo and lots of duck on top. Fantastic value for money. However, if you dont get there before 12.30pm then you may have to queue. Sunday lunch is 85% locals/15% tourists

Our first time in Lagos & Portugal. We used the site reviews almost always in choosing where to eat. Very honest, accurate and a great help.

A restaurant we found, not currently reviewed, is 'West Bar & Grill' on the first floor of the Marina. Quite simply, this was the best restaurant we ate in, during our 2 week holiday.

It has a very modern, elegant and stylish interior but remains very relaxing and homely.

The food is truly first rate; traditional salad & soup starters, meat & fish main courses. The food is beautifully cooked, is simple but the dishes have a vibrant, contemporary twist.

The staff are highly professional, great service with excellent 'aftercare' throughout the meal, which is very discreet. But this professionalism does not overpower with a relaxed, caring and friendly atmosphere created by the staff.

The food is not expensive, especially given it's quality and bearing in mind the marina location. West looks, feels and tastes like you're a very expensive restaurant.

West manages a perfect balance. Cool & trendy but remains warm & homely. Highly professional but remaining relaxed and friendly. Simple food but with a funky, modern twist.

Stassia, who runs West, told me she is trying to create something different and I can assure you, she has.

Christian's Kitchen Lagos

The prime rib is spectacular... On par with the prime rib of South Africa... Roughly 750 grammes, cooked to perfection, served with creamed spinich and potatoa wedges.. Fanastic...... Out of all the beef dishes I've had from around the world, this is one of the best.... Christian, please do not down size this super portion....

Prime rib lover...

This is for all of you. Be careful while eating Indian in lagos (Portugal)whether its Taj Mahal or Taste of India, my personal experience hasnt been so good with them.I have seen a living cockroach in the chicken jhalfrezi which I ordered for the main course and the starters seems to be months old.Be careful when you go in next time as the staff in not friendly as well.

fourteen nights, and not a bad one among them.

Arribale (Rua Barocca) - so good we made no fewer than four visits. Fresh fish, chicken sate, all excellent. Great host (Marko) always ensures a good atmosphere even when it's quiet (which it often is, no-one knows it's there). 9/10

Mullens (Rua Candido dos Reis) - old faithful, always love the food/atmosphere, and good value. Dropped in after midnight too, no food but great live music and party atmosphere. A resounding 9/10, although the current Mrs Fletch would give it 7, she can't see what all the fuss is about.

Dos Artistas (Rua Candido dos Reis) - consistently high standard of very elegant cuisine. 300 euros well spent between four of us (twice!). Overall 8/10.

Duquesa (Rua Candido dos Reis) - great time and good food freindly staff 8/10.

Christian's Kitchen (Rua Vasco da Gama, 63) - just at the bottom of the slope from the Tivoli, next to Luis's Bar. "Creative Cooking with a Difference" - certainly is. Cauliflower soup to die for, and tasty imaginative mains. This place deserves alot more customers, superb 9/10.

Do Cais - keep this for lunchtimes, in the busier evenings it's fairy ordinary. 7/10 at best (although one of our number had the rack of lamb which was superb).

Lazyjacks - best lasagne in town and only 6.50. Great atmosphere and very efficient service even when they're busy. Live music after 9ish, which can be suicidal (Pogues-style) or not, depending when you go. Great value, great fun, a solid 9/10.

We "discovered" Calhau Rolado while sightseeing and stayed for several hours -excellent food, great atmosphere and a wonderful welcome. Gaye and Steve have only recently taken over, but are keeping up the tradition of fine service and relaxing ambience generated by the previous owners.Highly recommended.

Weve got boat in marina and go to loads of restaurants throughout the year-
Dom Sebastian used to be very good but seems to have gone downhill, we wont be going there ever again.
Do Cais and Lindas is great food
Kohinoor is good for curry
Little Italy great for italian
Bahia on the beach is good
No Patio is great food

we too have about in marina

I can`t understand your comments about the Taverna de Lagos. I went with a friend and his wife and had a marvelous evening. We are "foodies",we all like food and drink and plenty of it ,we had starters and main courses which were superb. I do take on board your commemts about drinks, they were a little expensive, but the service was faultless. I would highly recommend it to any one. You always remember quality not cost

The comments on your site re the Taberna de Lagos bear out our experience of the place after half a dozen visits in that it is very hit and miss. Yes, it is expensive but when they get it right it is very good.......although with the pound going tits up the prices now outstrip the quality. Equally, on as many occasions we have had really awful stuff in there. I could have done better myself. I think there must be problems with staff for there to be so much inconsistency.

My personal experience eating at Maharaja Tasty Indian was great. The service is very friendly with open plan kitchen so you can see that your food is being freshly cooked. My favourite were Lamb Hyderabadi and Chicken Kashmiri. My vegetarian wife loved their vegetarian dishes. Highly recommended!

Hey there Lagos guys & Gals Tezza here..
I had a fantastic first visit to Lagos, thanks to your website! So much so that I'm going back in October to see all the friends I made.
To add to your list of places to eat... a comprehensive review follows.

Tezza ate at (and thought):
Casa Do Ze - little place on the corner of the route to main square and the fish market on the front.
Franscesca (a busy littlelady) runs a great place, with traditionally prepared portuguese and "brit" food - I had the fried pork with onions, pepper sauce and piri with sauteed pots - outstanding, with cabbage soup and a beer and coffee for 7 euros!!

Anonymous said...

Tezza continued...
Pescado's (just off the main square) Great local fish restaurant, very friendly - superb Cataplana 2 fed five of us!!
Imperio's - up the hill on the way to three monkeys - oustanding hot sandwiches and marinated chicken is delicious - good value and quick.
Cavero's on 25th April st. nice location, food good especially tuna but will add charges if you don't watch out! Friendly staff, but can get very busy.

Anonymous said...

Tezza more!
The Dutch frites shop - a great dutch chippy run by Hans, doing great dutch naughty food with dutch sate sauce and mayo - great value and a good stop off. Forget where itis in the old town, but you'll find it - just off the bottom end of 25th april st, off the square with the orange trees and cafe underneath them.
Elke and Willi's german pattiserie just round from Chiuwawa sell fantastic cakes and the freshest bread in town - good coffee too.

West - Lagos Marina
Headed over to Lagos for our easter break and enjoyed meals in Fernandos and Do Cais but were very excited when we found the newly re-opened West Bar & Grill in the marina. We started with a sundowner cocktail early evening on the terrace and then enjoyed what was really a top class meal. Presentation was immaculate, food was delicious and suprisingly good value. The staff were lovely and directed us to South Bar afterwards for a few more cocktails. Looking forward to visiting again very soon.

Barros next to the fish market in worth the experence,if only for it's owner Josef.Speaks several languages and a great sence of humour in those languages. Ardent Sporting Lisbon,Celtic and Yeovil Town supporter.taken on full running of the restaurant since his parents retired.great showman that keeps you entertained while you wait for very large portions4-5

If you have never been to the Algarve before all men should try Steak Portuguese Style or Bifa Portuguesa. The best one can found behind the large Hypoclean Car Wash of the tourist trap at the back of town.Steak wrapped in ham with scallop potatos in garlic with an egg on top 9.50 Euros fantastic.Rule of thumb eat where the Portuguese eat they know best

Said with a Jamaican accent, served with American manners, created with international flavors and located in Lagos, Portugal the Nah Nah Bah should be on your “Must-Visit” list while in Europe. The food at the Nah Nah Bah is grilled, sautéed, sliced, melted and boiled into an ecstasy by two genius culinarians.

The menu reads like an erotic novel and the main actors are your taste buds. Overt innuendos and witty word play tantalize your mind while making other parts water. The inventive and deft-fingered chefs meticulously prepare a meal that will make sweet sweet love to your mouth. When words like girthy, splattered, shaved and creamy all come together on one menu, you just can’t go wrong.

Hello, just about to embark on a trip to lagos with 5 friends all in mid 20's, just wondering if plp could give me info on the best in terms of price and quality ? there seems to be so many places to go but don't want to end up waste dining in sub par restaurants. thanks

We had really good meals at West Bar and Grill, Bahia Beach bar (although kitchen staff extremely rude on second visit so never went back) and Do Cais.

The absolute worst meal was at the Marina Bar. We went there because we'd eaten there on our previous hoilday two years ago. We found it had changed hands and, my goodness, the food was dreadful. It's cheap to eat here but there's a reason for that. Take your money elsewhere.
